For the second consecutive year, Resurrection’s Sarah Schulz has been named MVP of the District 8 senior girls’ basketball league.

Schulz led the Phoenix to a 12-0 record in District 8 competition and had a game-high 19 points in a 36-25 win over the St. Mary’s Eagles in the championship final.

Schulz was one of four Rez players named to the D8 all-star squad as teammate Celia McGlynn was named to the first team, while Kelsey Caza and Ellen McGowan earned second- team honours.

St. Benedict’s Kayla Leusink garnered first-team honours along with St. Mary’s Bethlehem Zebib and Kristin Hofstee of Woodland. Bobbi-Sue Hentges of St. David, Catherine Zafera of St. Mary’s and Dana Milani of St. Benedict rounded out the second team.

Resurrection’s Krissia Vasquez and Jama Bin-Edward were named to the league’s first-team junior squad, along with Afifa Salaad and Laura Ivits from St. Benedict and Alexis Stoyakovich of St. Mary’s.

Jamie Torrance-Perks of Rockway, Victorio Barroso of Monsignor Doyle, Brooke Mulder of Woodland, Megan Goar of St. David and Lauren Darrell of Père-René-de-Galinée were named to the second team.

The D8 all-stars will showcase their skills on Wednesday at the University of Guelph against the District 10 all-stars. The junior game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the senior game goes at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students.
